18. Hurts To See You Cry

Nothing is as wonderful as transparency in any relationship—transparency of thoughts, emotions, and opinions. They started becoming more transparent towards each other, not just emotionally but physically. Every inch of Taehyung's skin felt like Jungkook's own; he could hold, touch, and kiss him without needing any more consent. Jungkook had claimed every bit of him, and in return, he gave every single bit of himself wholeheartedly to the other. They knew this might be too much but everything was happening on its own, completely out of their control. The pace of which they had no hold on. In the beginning of their youth, they discovered reasons in each other to explore and experience every single thing, making this phase so eagerly anticipated and cherished. In addition to this, their lives gradually began to change separately. For Taehyung, he became more open ever since Jungkook became his greatest companion.

Having spent years of his childhood in a boarding school focused on instilling manners and skills, Taehyung found himself lacking opportunities to make friends or get close to anyone, except for his elder brother. The brunet grew introverted and highly timid over time. When he finally returned home to Seoul for high school, he was all on his own, turning to novels to learn what love felt like. He sought the depictions of romance by renowned romanticists, trying to understand how he, as an individual, should grow for his special someone. As he delved into art classes before attending any university, he still found himself lacking companions. However, Jungkook was too irresistible for him not to get to know. Jungkook was like the apple of Taehyung's eye. To him, Jungkook appeared mysterious, interesting, and highly tempting. Everything about the artist's personality, from his attire to his mannerisms, his indescribable talent, the way he talked to how he walked, that contrasting smile that lit up his entire being, and the way he looked at Taehyung with a galaxy in his eyes—everything was captivating. Taehyung had never felt this appreciated and praised before and he had faith in his artist that every action and word towards him was always true. It really was always entirely true.

And for Jeon Jungkook, discovering Taehyung was like living a dream—almost as if the angels in his paintings came alive or the perfect character from a romance-themed fiction came to life. In his eyes, Taehyung was nothing short of perfect. It's worth noting that for Jungkook, it was indeed something as typical as love at first sight because Taehyung was incomparable, perfect in every way. Yet, as Jungkook grew to know him more deeply, all he could see was pure gold. Taehyung is just priceless in every way. His character as beautiful as him and his maturity at a very young age had Jungkook's heart taken away. Taehyung is years younger than Jungkook but in some ways his intelligence was comparatively higher than him, as per Jungkook. One of his persistent thoughts caused the artist's life to change overnight. On a fine day, he found a substantial amount of capital deposited into his account—a reward that would typically require years of tireless effort. Yet, every bit of it was worth his dedication and unparalleled talent. To Jungkook, it felt like an overwhelming abundance—more than an entire world. However, unbeknownst to him, it was just the beginning, as more of his paintings gradually started to be sold out in auctions after earning love and appreciation from people for spending a decent amount of time in exhibitions. Even though he had said many times how grateful he was, he still needed to show it to the brunet. The artist sketched a pendant design on a rough sheet of paper, delicately adding details with a thin brush in his hand. He painted the design entirely in gold, symbolising how precious Taehyung was to him. The finalised design was then sent to a jeweller Jungkook knew, someone who could bring his desire to life with meticulous craftsmanship. Jungkook was desperately waiting for it to come, just exactly how he designed it so that he could show his gratitude to Taehyung in his way, show him how grateful he's to have him and for everything. All he had to do was to wait for it to come.

Lost in his thoughts and immersed in one of his creations, Jungkook eagerly awaited Taehyung's arrival. The latter hadn't shown up at school, promising to explain later. Jungkook couldn't wait to see him, his thoughts consumed by the longing to know how Taehyung was doing. And the shuffling sound against his door had his attention stolen, the artist instantly leaving his stool to walk towards his side but wait what. Taehyung's usual glow was absent; he didn't rush toward Jungkook with his typical enthusiastic greeting. Instead, he seemed subdued, his head hanging low, and his steps more leisurely as he walked toward the artist. Jungkook's heart began to thump rapidly inside of his chest after finding the gloom on his face. Taehyung had never been that way, which means something was definitely off. The brunet exhaustively put his bag on the wooden table as Jungkook walked towards him, standing in front of him. Jungkook looked down at Taehyung's downcast face, gently holding his chin in an attempt to make him look up. What he noticed was something he never wanted to see—tears in Taehyung's hazel eyes, the last thing he wished to witness.

"Tae?"

And all of a sudden that face was buried into Jungkook's neck, the brunet's arms wrapping around Jungkook's waist for a hug. Taehyung clung to him with no intention of pulling away, embracing him tightly as if it was the only thing that mattered. Questions naturally surfaced in Jungkook's mind at the sight of Taehyung in such a state. Why was his flower withering?

"Love, what's wrong?" He asked, hands protectively wrapping around his body, worries growing in and created questions in his head the answer of which he desperately wanted to know.

"What happened? Look at me." Jungkook demanded, parting him away to hold his cheeks in his hands so gently, the younger one still holding onto him. Jungkook's heart broke into a million pieces, the sight was so intolerable to even look at. The younger one started crying more. It felt worse than a nightmare to Jungkook—heartbreaking, as if the once vibrant garden of roses had turned into desert, everything around him crumbled to witness the precious droplets leave Taehyung's hazel eyes and roll down his mellow cheeks.

"Talk to me, baby. Say something, what happened?" Jungkook demanded again, eyes wandering on his face to search for any clue.

"G-granny- my granny is sick and I couldn't even go to see her. I can't go- they didn't take me." And Taehyung burst out into fat sobs right after letting the artist know who quickly pulled him for a hug.

"Shh, don't cry. Don't cry, love." Jungkook rubbed his hands on his back, another one into his hair to bring him to solace. He didn't want to see such a sight in front of his eyes where every passing second his heart would break, helplessness and pity would take over him to see the other one suffer. If Jungkook could, then he wished to give him his everything, would do anything to bring back that smile on his face but that seemed so difficult at the moment because he really was helpless in all sorts. But he still tried his best to be someone Taehyung could lay his head on and cry while he would make sure to check on him every time.

"What happened to her?" Jungkook decided to ask after a while, wanting to know if everything was alright.

"M-my granny is sick. A-and I can't go to see her. Appa said I should be here and f-focus on my priorities b-but I wanted to go and see her. It's been so long and I miss her." Taehyung cried continuously, stuttering in the process as he let the elder know his dilemma. Jungkook felt so terrible to be helpless in that situation, all he could do was to whisper sweet nothings to him, wiping those tears away from his mellow cheeks before planting a gentle kiss on his forehead.

"Did you try to ask anyone to let you meet her?" Jungkook asked and Taehyung shook his head, still crying.

"Eomma left already, appa will too and hyung is at work. I wanted to go with her." The brunet let him know and Jungkook's chest was loaded with a great responsibility to help him calm down.

"Don't cry my love. She will be fine. You'll see her soon."

"But how? Nobody's listening to me. They're all just mean. I won't talk to any of them-" the younger cried, talking out of his senses in pure agony.

"No, Tae, that's not good to blame them. Your appa must have reasons to not send you. What if she's not in a state of meeting more people? There could be other reasons too. Now why don't you wait for the holidays to come so that you can go and see her. All we can do is to pray for her to get better. Right?" Jungkook tried to convince with his softest voice possible which would only be used for Taehyung and only him. Taehyung tried to sniffle up his tears, Jungkook's assurance tried to work on him.

"Really?"

"Yes love, your father must have stopped you from meeting her because of some reasons. He couldn't go himself so there must be a reason. Now you should not be worried but pray for her well being instead." Jungkook gently wiped the last few droplets from Taehyung's cheeks. Taehyung nodded gently into his hands, and Jungkook's smile gradually returned as he realised that the tears had stopped. Leaning in, Jungkook kissed Taehyung's forehead and temples, placing gentle kisses on his wet eyelids, followed by a tender peck on his nose. He then pulled away to gaze at Taehyung's face.

"It hurts when you cry. Please don't cry, my love. I'm sure everything will be alright. You just have to know you're never alone in all your problems." Jungkook whispered, playing with his brown strands in a soothing manner. Taehyung sniffled up more, eyes gleaming when he looked up at Jungkook, his saviour, knight guard in shining armour who was trying to rescue all of his miseries even when he had no hold of them.

"Thank you." Taehyung whispered gently, placing his hand on top of Jungkook's against his cheek.

"Do you need more hugs?" The elder asked and Taehyung nodded rapidly, yes he needed them more than anything. Jungkook didn't hesitate to wrap his arms around Taehyung's waist, lifting him slightly. Taehyung encircled his arms over Jungkook's shoulders, hugging him tightly, their chests pressed against each other, their hearts interacting. Gentle kisses were planted on Taehyung's skin from the side as Jungkook embraced him, offering solace. That day, Taehyung realised that Jungkook was truly his place of solace, the end of all miseries, and every shade of beautiful colour in his life.
